Stampede in Acadia
Hi Everyone, Its been a while since I started this blog and June was very busy finishing up the current year and preparing for the next year at Acadia School where I work. I have also had a wicked case of insomnia that my wonderful neighbours have been suggesting cures for. I have been trying them all with no success yet. This happened to me about a year ago too, and I can't remember what finally happened to get me over it!
I had fun volunteering at the Acadia Community Association Stampede Barbecue and it was great to see so many of you come out. There were 270 burgers and hotdogs served. Many thanks to Lindsay and Frankie and their many helpers for all the hard work to make the barbecue happen. It's not just the day of cooking and serving, it's the planning and buying the food. We have incredible volunteers in Acadia and I am enjoying getting to know them. I loved Marg's "doctored" beans...best bean recipe ever! For those of you that asked - the burgers were Costco Angus Burgers.
If anyone is interested in helping out writing this blog, please comment here or send me an email at cgsandhurst@shaw.ca.
I learned something about Acadia that I just had not thought about before- its possible to grow up, work, raise a family, grow old, and spend your final years right here in Acadia. We have everything from daycare, schools, apartments, townhouses, single and detached homes and condominiums, and seniors home. What a great place we live in.
If you know something wonderful about Acadia - please share it with us all.
Happy Summer!
Corinne

The City of Calgary would like OUR ideas!
Hi, I am Corinne and I am a volunteer administrating this blog. I have no idea about how to do this right, but I think that the initiaive is an incredible opportunity for Acadia to have 10 years of city funding to help create a stronger Acadia.
The Acadia Strong Neighbourhood Initiative is for all residents of Acadia. Low Income, Middle Income, High Income, children, teens, young adults, middle age, seniors - we are all part of this initiative. Born in Acadia? Born somewhere else in Calgary? Born in another Province? another Country? Even another Planet? Doesn't matter where you are from, if you live in Acadia, this is YOUR community. Just moved here yesterday? Great! Welcome to Acadia! Lived here all your life? Fantastic - maybe you can help us understand the history of our community! It doesn't matter how long you have lived here....please, we need you to help make it stronger. How can we do this?
It all starts by talking about it. Please share the news about the initiative with your friends and neighbours in Acadia.
If you can, come out to the meetings or share your ideas on the blog or Facebook page or by phoning or emailing Viviana from the City of Calgary. Her contact info is below.
If you belong to a club or organization of any kind, school council, sport group, condo or apartment group, any group that meets in or includes participants from Acadia, please consider calling Viviana to have her come out and do a wonderful short presentation about this wonderful 10 year funded initiative. It's up to us to present to the city what we want to do to make our wonderful community even better!
Call Viviana with the City of Calgary at 403-537-7596 or send her an email at viviana.reinberg@calgary.ca
You can join the facebook page, share it with your friends, vote and add ideas by searching "Acadia Strong Neighbourhood Initiative" and looking at the wall for the voting area.
Thanks for reading and I hope that you consider getting involved however you can, whether its via internet, in person, a phone call or email to Viviana, or chatting with family and friends. It's all important!

Stampede Parade - Represent Acadia Community!
Federation's 50th Anniversary, it was by participating in the Stampede
Parade. We are just a month away from putting in one of the largest
entries into the parade - an entry that will celebrate all 147 community
associations and I want you to be part of it!
Have you ever thought you would like to be in the Stampede Parade? Cross
this one off your buck list - I have you covered!!!
BE PART OF IT! We are looking for adult volunteers from each community to
participate in our entry. Show your community pride by wearing a sash with
the name of your community and walk the 3 km parade as a pacer. CBC Radio
will be watching for our volunteers and commenting on the important role
communities play in Calgary.
I need about 80 more volunteers to make this a reality. As an adult
volunteer you will receive:
1) A Barbeque Party and Orientation on June 25 (location to be announced)
2) A "yellow" school bus ride from one of three LRT stations down to Fort
Calgary where the parade will begin
3) A Stampede Breakfast the morning of
4) A white cowboy hat to wear in the parade and to keep as your souvenir
BE PART OF IT! Help us make this dream possible. The deadline is June 20
- but please I am losing sleep! Sign up today.
Attached is a poster to circulate. We will take multiple people from a
community so long as they know that they might wear the sash of another
community (one sash is printed per community).
Thanks for your help....I look forward to seeing you at the parade!
Cheers and YAHOO!
